Lewes Crits Report

Lewes Wanderers Cycling Club – Evening Criterium Series 41st Edition
Round 1 – 31 May 2007The first round of the 41st edition of the Lewes Wanderers Evening Criterium Series was contested by some 40 riders on a circuit based at Laughton, East Sussex.
Nicholas Jeffery (Ewhurst Controls) was first to show his intentions in the race, taking full points at the first prime. George Higgs (Brighton Excelsior) took full points at the next prime with Andrew Comben (Lewes Wanderers) taking a very close sprint the next lap. Many riders tried to escape the bunch during the race, including the promoting clubs own Peter Barling.
With around 2 miles to go the report came through that George Higgs had broken away, however as the bunch thundered into the finishing straight the race was as one and the judges prepared themselves.
Dris Jones (VC Etoile) took a close sprint from Paul Gosling (Brighton Excelsior), George Higgs recovered from his breakaway attempt to place 3rd and with his points from scoring points at every prime was rewarded with the overall lead going into round 2 on 7th June.

Stop Press - Driss wins at the Lewes Crits

Following his 10th placing at Newchapel 2 weeks ago and an unfortunate flat at Wivelsfield last week, Driss Jones found himself an opening and sprinted to the line to take the win in the first of the Lewes Crits tonight.

SCA Weekend

5th/6th May saw the SCA 10 & 25 on the two courses round Steyning.

Saturday 10
For the VCE promoted event, the fastest three on what seemed like a slow day from Steyning down to Shoreham and back were

Paul Thatcher was also fastest vet. Harry Featherstone was fastest vet on std.

Martin, Tim, Pete, Simon & Ian opted to don some very attractive yellow bin liners and hang about on roundabouts. Lesley & Alison fed people. The Mikes made it all happen and took care of the time.

Another windy day saw In Gear Quick Vit dominate their promoted event.

Worthing Excel 25

The Worthing Excelsior Open 25 mile event on the 20th May has a different promoter from that stated in the handbook.

Martin knocked off!

Martin was knocked off this weekend when a car pulled out on him. He's OK though he now carries a neck injury but his bike wasn't so lucky.
It's a jungle out there!

ESCA 10 & SCCU 25 - Short & Sketchy.

Saturday's ESCA 10 saw Pete Tadros winning again with a long 20 on the Boship course.
Both Geoff and Paul J were around the 24 minute mark.
Sunday's SCCU saw VCE take the team prize with Mike on a 53, Tim on a 55 & Roger on a 57.
